Our Policies at a Glance

At Lighted Harbour Counselling Services, our policies are designed to ensure a safe, respectful, and effective therapeutic environment for everyone. Understanding these guidelines helps us create a clear and supportive journey together.

We believe in transparency and clear communication. Our policies explain how we operate, so you feel secure and informed throughout your counselling experience at Lighted Harbour Counselling Services.

Cancellation and rescheduling policy:

We kindly request a minimum of 24 hours' notice for any cancellations or rescheduling of appointments. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours' notice) or no-shows may incur a cancellation fee. This policy allows us to offer the time slot to other clients seeking support. We understand emergencies happen; please communicate with us as soon as possible.

Mutual respect and courtesy:

At Lighted Harbour Counselling Services, we are committed to treating all clients with professionalism, empathy, and respect, and we expect the same in return. Disrespectful, abusive, or discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated, ensuring a safe space for all.

Crisis intervention and safety protocols:

Your safety is paramount. If we are speaking and get disconnected, and you are in a personal crisis, immediately call 911, go to your local emergency room, or contact the Canadian National Suicide Hotline at 800-273-8255. We encourage you to have a personal safety plan in place.

Confidentiality and its limits:

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our practice. However, if concerns about your safety arise during a session, we are legally and ethically obligated to break confidentiality. This includes situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. In such cases, we will contact 911 (or local emergency services if you are located elsewhere) and/or your emergency contact immediately. Please remember that everything outlined in your Intake Form, including all informed consent and confidentiality exceptions, applies to all sessions, including video calls.
